Novag Super-Constellation Chess Computer

Post by moniquevv »

Does anyone know how much this 1984 Novag Super-Constellation chess computer is worth? I am looking to sell it and don't know what to price it at. (Art. 844)

Hi,
I would suggest: €120 to €140 ($130 to $150) if mint condition and power adapter included, complete with original chessmen.
Hope this helps,

Thanks! Yes, I have the AC adapter and a surge protector that was bought with it. All original chessman!

Just remember when you advertise it as ‘complete’, buyers will assume that means
what it says, ie, the original box is included. Also included is the flexible plastic strip
that the manufacturer provided to place over the menu selections to give options,
eg, to modify the opening book.
The Super Constellation and it’s little brother the Constellation enjoyed a fairly
big production run. I think what makes them a bit on the rare side is the fact that
the onboard rechargeable battery leaked onto the main board and sent the whole
thing kaput. Another, easily fixable problem was the push fit central processor, which
lost contact in one or more of its legs. This was corrected by gently levering up each
end of it and then just pushing it back into place. A lot of super Connie’s went into
rubbish bins needlessly.
Good luck with your sale.

Thank you for the information. Yes, mine still works and I have the original box along with the flexible plastic strip. I guess I will try to list it on Facebook marketplace here in the US. Let me know if there is anything else I should be aware of. I appreciate the advice!

Hi Larry

I hate to think a similar fate will befall my Super Connie. Is the battery removable?

Thanks!

Yes it’s removable but a bit tricky to get into the SC main board.
I’ve removed the rechargeable batteries on my SC , Connie and Connie 3.6.
Did it about 5 years back. You are selling yours so probably not
worth messing with it. If it does not sell and you decide to keep it
get back to us and and we can walk you through the dismantling
procedure. All the best.

Hi Larry, thanks for the advice. I'm not proposing to ever sell my SC as I use it every day during my lunchbreak. If you can ever find time to talk me through how to remove the battery, I'd be very grateful.
